What started as a fun way to spend time with her father, Makalia quickly grew to love the game of golf. She played golf in high school, working diligently on her game. During her high school career, she rose from Most Improved Player her junior year to Most Valuable Player and Captain of her golf team her senior year. From there, Makalia earned a full-ride scholarship to play at Jackson State University where she was also captain of her golf team and earned the Medalist title (lowest score on avg.) her final year playing, All Conference First-Team SWAC, and Top 5 finisher in the SWAC Championships. Makalia was also the first woman to win the first Women's Open at Jackson Park Golf Course in Chicago, IL. shooting a low 72 even par her first round!
After college, Makalia pursued a career route of business development and she currently resides in Dallas, Texas. When Makalia isn't helping to hone young minds as well as swing skills as a professional golf instructor with Champions Golf Training at The Golf Ranch, she enjoys traveling, walks with her dog Smiley, and playing golf with friends.
